Lee Hyori

Hellooo, it's Bianca. I've got this huge lump of guilt lodged in my throat right now because I KNOW I NEED GET STARTED ON MY IR ESSAY(S)...but I guess this persistent temptation to post something up got the best of me. Oh well, what to do :) :)

Anywhooo, here is who I have for you today: the superstar diva of South Korea, missus Lee Hyori. Here's the vid of her song we featured last Saturday, Toc Toc Toc:

(I couldn't find a good quality video with English subtitles :( sorry)

I don't know about you guys but I'm not such a big fan of her singing or dancing... however it's undeniable how gorgeous she is:

... if only we can all look like that when we're 30. Sigh.

She's been in the music scene for quite a while -- she is a former member of a girl group Fin.K.L, which disbanded in 2002 and she's been going solo ever since. She's one of Korea's top A-list celebrities, and asides from singing and dancing she's been the face of numerous endorsements, starred in dramas, and countless variety shows. I personally love her when she's off stage, cuz that's when her down-to-earth self comes out :D I sometimes watch her on this Korean reality series Paemilliga Tteossda ("Family Outing"), this show where a group of celebrities leave the comforts of the big city and take on lives in the countryside, and she's hilarious. Check this out this short snippet from the show (where she's being all goofy with her own rendition of a Korean pop song, and the rest are basically giving her a hard time; telling her that because she's 30, and one of the oldest in the group, she's embarrassing herself and everyone else by acting this way lol):

(btw, if you guys can, look online for full-length episodes of this show with English subtitles; it's really, REALLY funny :D)

At the moment, her long hiatus is slowly coming to an end, and she will soon be coming out with her newest album :) She was actually in the States, consulting different producers about this project, so it's bound to be pretty impressive. I'll update you guys as soon as her newest MV comes out, so stay tuned for that.

She was also involved in a celebrity Adidas campaign during her stay in the US, which was pretty cool since she got to work alongside huge names like Ciara and Snoop Dogg. You can view the original article here, and check out the pictures below of her rocking some Adidas wear for a Cosmopolitan Magazine photoshoot:

Arrighty, that's it for today. Have an awesome second-to-last-week-before-exams-start week :] xoxo

Wang Lee hom

Hey guys! This is Net here :) Thanks to Bianca for an awesome start to the blog! Sorry for not having written earlier - I was just tired, lazy etc. lol But I have just a bit of time to spare this afternoon, so I thought it'd be great to post something!

As promised, here's some more info and pics about Wang Lee Hom.

Wang LeeHom is of Chinese Ancestry, but an American born singer and songwriter. He's a graduate of music, so you know that the process of composing is meticulous, and you can tell by how "put-together" (hmm. is that even a word?) his songs are. Like I've mentioned in the show last night, he's known for incorporating traditional elements to his modern R&B, pop/ hip hop style. Which I think is really thoughtful, because it shows how much appreciation he shows for his own heritage and spreading it to the newer generations. (Ding! Points awarded here)

And, his voice is soft, mellow and he IS very cute (Ding! Extra points awarded here lol)Did I mention that he's multi-talented? He plays more than 10 instruments - traditional and modern e.g. violin, flute, Chinese Violin, piano, drums, harmonica etc. etc.

His 2007 Album called "Change Me" was based on hoping to send along the message to young generations to help with climate change/ global warming through music! (Ding!!! More points awarded here)

Word has it that he's in the process of starring in a movie called "Lian Ai Tong Gao", and he's also the director for the said movie! So stay tuned for that. I don't know when they'll be releasing it though.

Anyhow - here's the music video for the song called "Huo Tian Cuo" or "Flower Field Mistake" that we featured last night.

Here's another video called "Everything" it made me cry T___T

Sorry I couldn't find a youtube version with lyrics in English / translation.. But, I searched the internet lol and here's a snippet of what the song means (Mandarin--> English); I'm posting just the bit from the chorus:

"Even if others say that we don't have a future,
It is impossible for me to give up so easily.

'Cause you're my everything,
The one and only reason,
Allowing me to face this world bravely.
I Want to give you everything,
No matter how many tomorrows it takes.
Forever will start from this moment.
Your love is my everything."

Awwwwwwww Isn't it sweet??? It melts my heart T____T

Anyways, I'll be posting more on other featured artists later :)

Hey guys! First off, just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to those who tuned in tonight...hopefully our slip-ups and neurotic-like manner didn't get in the way of your enjoyment...you could obviously tell we were new at this :] hehe.

We also hope that you liked the music we played for you. We try to be eclectic with our playlists and include as much as we can of everything, despite the fact we only have an hour to do so :( Again, leave us a comment if you have any feedback or special requests!

Anyways, moving on....Bianca presents to you your first chunk of extra goodies :O

Run Devil Run by SNSD:
*A note about English subtitles: they are not the precise translation of the lyrics...it may sound a tad weird in English because part of the vibe gets lost in translation...which is a major setback for Asian music, especially if you're the type that analyzes lyrics of songs :( but like we said, language shouldn't be something preventing you from appreciating new types of music :) do what I did and shift your attention to that "run Devil run" dance thing in the chorus that they make look so good...

SNSD (aka Girls' Generation, for some reason) is currently among the most popular girl groups of South Korea, as well as all over Asia. It personally took me quite a while to get used to the fact that there were SO MANY OF THEM...

...but once you can match the name to the face, it's not that bad.

Like we said, the whole "black & sexy" image is quite new for them, but they make it work, I guess. Net is absolutely gaga over their new hair, and I want those white Givenchy-ish 5/6-inch heels for myself :]

Previously, though, they had this cutesy, innocent, girl-next-door concept going on, evident in this older, but very NO-TOR-IOUS, hit...(
for those of you who know it - hands on hips and let's break it down: "GEE GEE GEE GEE BABY BABY BABY...")

Check it out below.

Caution: highly addictive.
(We're not saying you'll love it...in fact, you might hate it. But you may have a hard time getting it out of your head.)

Have fun with that.

So while you try and erase their clingy chorus from your head, allow me to introduce 2NE1, another Korean girl group topping the charts of Asia alongside SNSD.

Try to Follow Me (Nal Ddarahaebwayo):

They are actually quite new, having debuted about a year ago, but their popularity is, simply put, overwhelmingly overwhelming. I can go on forever about how amazing they are, but the fangirl in me will eventually surface, and I will keep you here all night. Seriously.

But like I mentioned on air, one of the things I WUV about these girls are their clothes & shoes is that they've got their own thing going on - this risky, dangerous, dynamic vibe, which dramatically contrasts that of the angelic & lollipop image donned by existing girl bands. (And you'll notice later on that their style has repeatedly been adopted by other groups...but I honestly think no one else but them can put put together a single outfit of like 24 shockingly different colors and patterns, call it fashion, strike a pose and set a trend:

3 of the girls with their stylist and THE Jeremy Scott....omg, you know you're someone when you get to chill with the KING of outrageous...

2PM with Again & Again:

THE BEST PART ABOUT 2PM IS THEIR MOOOOVES! Like we said, their leader Jay Park is part of an underground Seattle b-boy crew, and the rest have pretty sick break-dancing skills as well. (But this is not saying their singing isn't up to par...they have amazing vocals too, especially Junsu, who sings the chorus alongside Jay).

Below is a practice vid of them with another song, I Hate You (Niga Mipda):

Nyah ha ha. So adorkable :)

By the way, the Thai member Net mentioned on the show is Nickhun, the one with the redish/pinkish windbreaker and cap. And a little more FYI for you: he, along with Jay, and Taecyeon (tall, black tank top, so good-looking it makes your knees buckle), are all American-born (California, Seattle, Massachusetts, respectively).

But most importantly, check out leadjaaah's smooth slide at 1:47 eeeeeeeeee

Sadly, 2PM is currently on the rocks nowadays because of the sudden departure of Jay, who became the center of negative attention when some stuff regarding his past came up...basically, comments that he posted on his old MySpace page criticizing Korea were publicly exposed, which made fans angry; and this whole thing escalated to the point where Jay actually had to leave Korea. Following this, the other members' dirty laundry surfaced as well. They've lost a considerable chunk of their fanbase, but despite this they've decided to continue on with their activities. It still is a hot topic today, and though it was officially announced (after a long, painful wait) that Jay is not returning, many fans are still very bitter about the issue. You can check out an Allkpop article that covered his initial leave here (and follow the rest of the story on that site), and formulate your own opinion about the issue.

(Aww, I'm sorry for that downer...hopefully Jay can do his part and lighten up the mood a bit for you...)

M-Flo ft. Alex (Clazziquai) - Love Me After 12AM (Live/Acoustic version)
(I couldn't find the music video for it :( sorry guys. But this is equally as awesome, trust me!)

M-Flo is a Japanese rap duo (Verbal & DJ Taku) pretty well known for their hip-hop/electro songs; Clazziquai is a Korean electro/acid jazz group consisting of DJ Clazzi, Horan, and Alex (a Canadian-born himself!). I love M-Flo, and I love Clazziquai, so the both groups together = dsjfajldsakdfadhjhkkjjjjjjjjjj...

Here's another [awesome] collaboration of theirs, Love Mode (remixed):
*Note: they have different versions of this song, which you can go check out on YouTube...this apparently is the Japanese/English version
